Summer Overview 20225

Year 5 2024-2025 updated spelling

Summer term 2025

We are excited to welcome you all back to school to continue our Year 5 learning journey.

We have lots of fantastic learning ahead; our summer term topic is ‘Amazon Adventure’.

Year 5 will continue to have the amazing opportunity to learn to play the ukulele. These lessons take place each Wednesday and it is important that children have their ukuleles in school each Wednesday for the lesson please.

A full curriculum overview can be found above.

Year 5 teaching team:

Class Teacher: Mrs Hodgson

Teaching assistant: Mrs Newton

Class Governor: Mr Teague and Mr Jenkins

Other Information:

On Tuesday morning, Mrs Teague will be teaching the class with Mrs Newton.

Each Wednesday afternoon we will be learning to play the ukulele with Mr Norton. We will bring our ukulele home each week to practise.

P.E.

Our P.E. days for the summer term are Monday and Wednesday. Children will need to come to school in their school P.E. Kits and trainers on these days.

For health and safety reasons jewellery including ear-rings should not be worn. Children who wear ear-rings need to take them out for PE and should bring a small purse or container into school to keep them in.

Please ensure your child has their inhaler in school at all times.

Homework

New spellings will be posted on Seesaw fortnightly (along with ideas of activities which can be done at home to consolidate work done in school).  The focus remains on children using and applying spellings correctly in their own writing. A paper copy will also be sent home.

Reading:

Daily reading at home remains important in Year 5. Please continue to question and discuss the text with your child to develop their understanding and comprehension skills. We will continue to promote reading for pleasure so please note any other texts your child is reading in their reading record.

Children should continue to use Times Table Rock Stars to practise and consolidate their times table knowledge throughout Year 5.

Thank you for all of the continued support at home to help children achieve and continue to be ‘Simply the Best!’
