Welcome to Summer Term in Year 2!
This is a huge term for Year 2 as they come to the end of their Infant’s journey and begin to prepare for the Juniors! The children are ready for their next steps and are continuing to focus on independence and tying together all of the important skills and knowledge they have learnt from KS1.
This Summer term, our learning will be focused around the Seaside! We will be exploring Seaside poems and writing explanation texts around beach formations. The children have access to various Seaside fiction and non-fiction texts, linking with our History of comparing the Seaside in Victorian times to now. The children will also be excellent Geographers and researching local seaside resorts of Fleetwood and Blackpool. Alongside our Seaside theme the children will be working hard across other areas of the curriculum. Children will have access to continuous provision activities throughout in classroom with our zones, further strengthening their skills in numeracy, writing and investigation.
Please see the Curriculum Overview for more of our amazing learning for this Term!

PE / Key Information:
Our P.E. days this half term are Monday and Fridays. Children will therefore need to wear their PE kits to school on these days. As the weather gets nicer, we will be outdoors where possible therefore, your child can wear joggers.
We love to share with our families the wonderful work that the children produce, and this is done through SeeSaw.
Homework
Spelling newsletters will be sent home on a Friday (via Seesaw). These newsletters detail the spelling rules and patterns that we are currently learning. The focus remains on children using and applying spellings correctly in their own writing; please practise the spelling rules and patterns at home to help with this.
The children will have many opportunities to read independently and enjoy a variety of texts throughout the week in class. Please encourage your child to read each night at home too.
Thank you for all your support.
Miss Hynes and Mrs Hastewell
