Global awareness and Courageous Advocacy
We place a high value on the children developing a good knowledge understanding of the world around them that takes them beyond the local area. Pupils are introduced to the themes of Global Awareness through a range of opportunities which are encouraged and developed by the school’s leadership and the RE subject leader.
- RE, Collective worship and spiritual development at class and whole school levels, enable pupils to explore different faiths and world issues.
- Pupils participate in active global citizenship through the school council, with representatives from all junior year groups, meeting regularly to plan and implement initiatives throughout the school and the wider community. This has recently included considering how to reduce the school’s carbon footprint.
- Workshops accessed through the local cluster have inspired pupils to make a difference. They have joined with other local schools to debate issues such as cutting down in single-use plastic in schools.
- The school actively engages with the wider community and supports and fundraises for a number of local charities including Derian House, St Catherine’s Hospice, Penwortham Food Bank and Tippy Toes baby charity.
Our aim is for our children to become active Global Citizens by:

Courageous Advocacy
“Love your neighbour as yourself” Mark 12: 29-31
We are courageous advocates for the common good, locally, nationally and globally. We recognise that life is full of ups and downs and that at times all people will face challenges that they need help and support in overcoming. We believe that people are worth spending time with, that people need time to grow and need loving attention. The Christian Gospel says that every person has a unique task to do, with God, and for God, whether they know it or not. We hold and courageously advocate the conviction that there is something mysterious, and potentially wonderful, in everybody.
It is important for our children to appreciate their role as part of a community; to take responsibility, to be able to look after themselves & to foster an understanding of their importance, impact and influence in the world.
We support a range of charities in our local area, nationally and globally. The school council work with staff, governors, parents, pupils and St Mary’s Church to identify worthy causes to support.
Our school stands up for what we believe in and our Christian values ensure that opportunities to discuss the big issues, to challenge injustice and to engage in activities that can bring about change are always present.
